Our Youth
Christian Education
Rally Day is a special day marking the return of church programs after the summer hiatus. Typically Rally Day is the first Sunday after Labor Day. At 9:45AM there are activities for youth from three years of age through 12th grade on the lawn (weather permitting) and Adult Sunday School in the Friendly Fellowship room in the church basement. Worship service follows at 11:00AM.
Sunday School for all ages is offered at 9:45AM each Sunday morning after Rally Day through the end of May. Age-appropriate classes are held throughout the church. The preschool class for three, four and five year olds meets on the first floor of the church in the Linway Nursery School area. Classes for kindergarten through 6th grade students meet on the second floor of the church. The Junior and Senior High students (7th through 12th grades) meet in the L.O.C.K. youth group room in the church basement. The Adult Sunday School class meets weekly in the Friendly Fellowship room in the church basement. Look for room identifying signs throughout the church!
Adult Bible Studies and Study Groups are held throughout the year on a variety of topics. These sessions are typically held on Wednesday nights.
Youth Ministry
Youth Group comprises two separate groups. “Kids Club” is for students in kindergarten through 6th grades and “L.O.C.K.” (Love Of Christ Kids) is for 7th through 12th grade students. Both groups meet monthly from September through June beginning with Rally Day and on the first Sunday of following months. Meetings are held from 4:00 to 6:00PM in the Social Hall in the church basement. In addition to meetings, Youth Group activities and events are planned throughout the year.
Junior Church
Junior Church takes place following the “Time for Children” portion of the Sunday worship service and is open to kindergarten through 6th grade students. It is held on the second floor of the church and provides a Bible lesson and related craft or activity presented by an adult leader and a youth assistant. There is Junior Church most Sundays expect for special occasions when it is suggested that the children remain in the sanctuary for the worship service.
Nursery
Infant & Toddler Nursery is provided during the Sunday worship service for infants and children too young to attend Junior Church. The nursery has age-appropriate equipment and toys and is staffed with an adult volunteer and a youth assistant available from 9:45AM through the end of the worship service. Parents can remain in the nursery with their children, if they choose, or return to the sanctuary for participation in the service.
Annual Church Retreat
One of the highlights of Linway's church year is the Family Retreat Weekend held in April of each year. It is held at the Ligonier Conference Center in Ligonier, PA. The idea for the retreat was an excellent way bring families and friends together for a fun time and to share in the fellowship of our Presbyterian faith. The retreat has been a yearly tradition at Linway since 1978.
Located in the foothills of the Appalachians, Linway retreaters are treated to hotel-like accomodations mixed splendidly with all God's beautiful outdoors. The weekend includes hiking, studying our faith, playing games, eating, socializing, and a special worship service on Sunday.
Annual Church Picnic
Every June following a worship service, the annual Church Picnic is held in White Oak Park. It is a time for games and singing in a picnic atmosphere in the wonder of God's beauty.
